Chen Clan Academy
The former residence of the Chen family in Guangzhou. It's gray brick walls offer carvings and rooftop statues and today it houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. A calm setting in the heart of busy Liwan district with its central gardens and courtyards. 1-2 hours to view. Can be reached by taxi, bus, and metro. Costs 10RMB. The Museum of the Nanyue King of the Western Han Dynasty
Based around the unearthed tomb of the secondNanyue King and his grave goods. Discovered in 1983, it reflects the culture and history of more than 2,000 years ago and the new building that houses the treasures is designed in a modern Lingnan style and incorporates the tomb itself as the center piece. 3-5 hours to view. Can be reached by taxi, bus, and metro. Costs 12RMB. Yuexiu Park
A city park at the edge of Yuexiu district includes Zhinhai Tower, an art museum, and the Statue of the Five Rams (one of the emblems of the city). Local elderly Chinese gather here daily to play hackysack with their special feather-topped kick toys, practice Tai Chi and dance. Sloping hills covered in trees make this a pleasant stroll even on hot, humid days. 4-6 hours to view. Can be reached by taxi, bus, and metro. Cost is free; Zhenhai Museum and Art Exhibition 10RMB each. Chimelong Safari Park
An internationally approved zoo and open-range park featuring more than 500 species and 20,000 animals. Successful tiger, panda and koala breeding programs are the pride of the park. Fun features include the diving tigers, animatronic dinosaur exhibit and train tour of the open-range park area. 5-8 hours to view. Can be reached by taxi, bus and metro. Guangdong Museum
This museum, designed to look like a Chinese puzzle box, offers 4 permanent galleries of material on the history of the Guangdong region and 3 traveling galleries focused on Chinese culture and world culture. It is part of the Zhujiang New Town park complex it. 2-4 hours to view. Can be reached by taxi, bus, and metro with a 5 minutes through the park. Cost is Free, but you must bring passport or Chinese government ID. The 4 Major Temples of Yuexiu District
Four distinct temples in a short walking distance from each other. Explore Guangxiao temple, one the most important Buddhist temples in the city, then visit Liurong temple and the Flower pagoda inside. Walk south to the Huaisheng temple the oldest Muslim mosque in China and its famous lighthouse and end your tour at the Taoist temple to the Five Immortals, now a museum. 2 hours for Guangxiao and Flower Pagoda together, 10 minute walk to Huaisheng temple (entrance only for members of the Islamic faith), 5 minute walk to the Taoist temple of the Five Immortals. 1 - 2 hours for Taoist temple. Total time : 3 - 4 hours to view. Can be reached by taxi, bus, and metro. Cost per temple : Guangxiao 5RMB, Liurong 5RMB, Huaisheng free to the faithful, Taoist temple free with passport or Chinese ID card. Baiyun "White Cloud" Mountain Park
"The first peak of Lingnan" is the start of the mountain range north of the city and provides the best views of Guangzhou. Moxing Summit is the highest point in the city and the Dusk Viewing Platform's view of the CBD is stunning. Tree-covered mountains and valleys provide a fresh air escape from the hustle of urban life. 5-8 hours to view. Can be reached by taxi, bus and metro. Cost Park 5RMB. Forest of Steles 5RMB, Moxing Summit 5RMB and Birdcage 10RMB each. |
